A Case For Women Wearing Track Pants Outside The House

Rainy days make you want to give up. It ruins your shoes, the sideways rain ruins your make up, and your hair is not going to be your friend all day. Luckily, there is this delightful trend for Spring 2012 called "athleticism" which makes it okay for fine grown ass women to wear track pants, you know, out of the house. Which is ideal because it's raining, and as we've already discussed, getting dressed and looking great is going to be a little more difficult with stormy weather.

When track pants are made out of silk and are more of a tuxedo inspired hybrid, like the ones shown by Elizabeth and James, it kind of makes you feel less like a bum, and more like you're Emmanuelle Alt. You think, "I can wear skinny pants and be oh-so- French looking with my classic pumps."
Pumps like Jimmy Choos patent Abel pumps. From there, it's easy, you've got a great base founded on comfort! Top it off with a super soft long sleeve Mulberry baseball tee in a super clean blush color, and accessorize with classic Ray Bans, a clean structured DVF clutch, and a bold Maison Martin Margiela rose gold cuff.

Now you're in business. Emmanuelle Alt style.

The Karen Walker Effect

Yeah, yeah, the Céline sunglasses are very cool and the"it" item to have, but it's been over done.
Everyone is wearing them. So why not wear something a little different? Still oversized, but a little more fashion forward.

Hands down favorite sunglasses brand: Karen Walker is quirky, completely reinventing the traditional sunglass shapes every season. I own three pairs (so far), two of which happen to be the same freaking frame in two different colors. Why I need the Nummber Ones in both colors? Because they're amazing.

They are playful, oversized, and super flattering to faces. This is why she gets her own post, because sometimes I just wanted to make an outfit post out of a pair of sunglasses.

Drive, Girl. Drive.

Isn't it beautiful? True story: not long ago, Halloween 2011, a couple of adorable coworkers decided to dress up as me. It was the biggest surprise of my life to realize that I had a Wednesday Adams complex: I loved to dress in all black. Since that day I decided that, ok, girl, we have to give colors a chance. And so come beautiful things like this combination inspired by the movie I can't stop talking about: Drive.

I'm convinced that if Ryan Gosling was a woman this is what he'd be wearing in the movie. I know, epic. Borderline cheesy, but playful, tightly edited, and tailored.

The track pants are perhaps my favorite piece. They're these silky, slouchy pretty things by Elizabeth and James, whom I must say is on a god damn roll with their clothing line. The sheer paneled pink confection of a shirt is also by Elizabeth and James. I would wear it under a tribal inspired bomber by Tory Burch. While we're in this happy mood let's keep it up with goldenrod Christian Louboutin pumps. Golden + rod. Two great words that equate to magnificent things. In lieu of more things to scream for people's attention let's keep it simple with a great patterned Pierre Hardy cosmetic case. Remember you can get away with this type of thing because you're a bad ass driver.

Now there you have it, female Ryan Gosling from Drive. Go beat someone's face in with your Louboutin and go threaten people with hammers. Just don't get your bomber dirty.

Eye Candy Deluxe: Prada Spring 2012 Video Shot by Steven Meisel

This is so inspiring to watch, I just loved how the clothes looked so much better in context of this video. The styling is absolutely stunning and colorful. I have to admit I questioned the kitschiness of this on the runway, but I'm seeing how these can work individually now in real life. I'm literally dying over those sunglasses. Love the 50s vintage inspired frame with a colorful twist. Love the music, too. Watch the video for yourself. I dare you to not fall in love with the entire collection.
