The Céline Effect / Little Hands

Gesutural hands as accessories and brooches are a pretty little creepy thing I like to add to jacket lapels or cardigan seams. I like the sinister undertone of this Duoh pin, and the idea having what looks like a doll's hand on a collar rather than the usual anonymous bling. Who can we blame for this? Probably Céline. Always blame Céline (see below). So I guess you can spend $520 below and get the Phresh out the Runway ceramic Céline pin, or you can interpret this eery trend your own way with a brass one from Duoh, or a cheekier version by Casa Malaspina. I already own all of the avaialbale hands in both parties, and I have to say the effect of the hands group love is nothing less than charming.

Let's take a collective moment to just stare at the details of this sweater, appreciate its nonchalant drape, and ponder at the fact that this sweater costs upwards of $3,000. Yikes.

Zara gods, I'd be cool if you made a cheaper version of this. I won't be mad.

We Get It: Pants Go Under Dresses For Fall

This runway trend is so consistent, so blatant, that I'm feeling a little paranoid, and certainly out of this exclusive loop. Someone powerful must have played some fashion telephone starting in New York, who then called London, who then told Milan — that bitch— who snitched to Paris that this was the trend to put into their shows.

The verdict? I love it. For two reasons:
1. Personal reasons: this may be just me, but I'm not one to jaunt around in short shorts and mini dresses no matter what my age or physical fitness. That's not that I don't want to, or certainly post about them once or twice or thrice, but it's just that I'm too chicken to do it. Too much skin — too much going on in my head when I do. Things like, "ah, my thighs" and other girl-type insecurities. I subscribe to the notion of "less is more" while I am well aware the fact that this saying is probably the motto for short-shorts wearing gals everywhere too. I am a huge fan of being all wrapped up and comfortable, and realistic, and still feminine, sexy even.

2. Nothing groundbreaking here in this reason: I'm almost always cold. I live in the Bay Area and this strikes my sensible bones as a smart fashion move. Trendy and practical. Layers, people. I live in them. Offices, they have AC and I work in them.

It's Never Too Early For Fall, Particularly 3.1 Phillip Lim's Sheer Pants Runway Kind Of Fall

What choice do I have when the beautiful sunny weather goes away and suddenly the mornings, afternoons, and evenings are filled with the unmistakable (sad) chill of winter? None, that's what. So I mix it up a couple days and start test driving out a couple Fall 2012 looks I was obsessed with when they walked at New York Fashion Week. This one is all 3.1 Phillip Lim. This floored me:

The idea of a tiny mini skirt in a matte leather looking all the bit classy was mind-blowing. You dress it way down with a pair of sheer pants and over-dress the top with a loose knit. It's a great way to wear a classic pump in a completely new way.

If ever there was a shoe so appropriately named. The "Obsession" pump. Love it.

In Which I Dress Down A Graphically Fantastic Pair of Thakoon Shorts

Remember these utterly cool shorts from Thakoon's Spring 2012 fashion smorgasbord of a show? At the time, you're like "Ok, those are probably the best thing I've ever laid eyes on," until you thought about the degrees of practicality they'd have to fit into to live your life amongst normal non-fashion enthusiasts.

Well, this is how it's done, people. Judgey looks aside, this outfit is literally adorable. It's very much professional, with a trippy dose of the graphic and a charming embrace of the color coral.

The shirt is a crispy piece by Erdem, casually tucked into the much spoken about Thakoon shorts with gold details. We embrace the potential for madness with some trendy circle sunglasses by The Row, and come back down to practical land by using your Proenza Schouler iPad case as a clutch (not everyone has to have an iPad nor cares for one, plus its cheaper this way...not sorry!) and finally, some Burberry Prorsum woven ballet flats that manage to pick up every single piece of brilliance from the Thakoon shorts.

Lovely, no? Not at all coo-coo.

This couldn't be any further away from the pastel creation that was the Spring 2012 collection! But I love, none the less. I love how some of the same elements have carried over to this fall collection, like the sheer layering, the collars, and the pants, but I kind of miss the intricacies of the the kite inspired tops. The oversized coat with the menswear inspired fabric is definitely something I want to be wearing next fall. The sheer pants under the skirt? Definitely love that combination of scantily clad and covered up. Just as I was getting used to color, Phillip Lim comes back with a strong argument for well structured silence.

Theyskens' Theory Semi-Sheer Cool

I'm literally crossing my fingers hoping and wishing that this look is available at Moda Operandi in the coming days. The trunk sale goes live 1/9, but I need to know!

The composition of the knit top has everything I want: the longer hem at the back, semi-sheer panels in oh-so flattering spots, and and ultra sexy yet conservative open back that gives the top the illusion of a tux jacket tail.
