Cry-Baby

Remember Johnny Depp from Cry-Baby? That's kind of how I feel in this leather jacket. I've been looking at this Acne leather jacket for years but the price is just so absurd to me that I have forever hoarded it in shopping carts waiting for a sale. So when Madewell released their Fall 2014 lookbook, I jumped at the chance to try this one on and see how it measures up to the Acne leather jacket. You know what? It measures up just fine. Overall, the jacket is a great buy, but beware it is heavy. Also note, that the hardware on the buckles are very loud and a little bit cheap feeling. Other than that the quality is really surprisingly great. The way I see it, for a leather jacket that looks and feels like it should have a $1700 price tag, I'm sure you agree you are willing to make compromises.

So why did I return mine? Some minor defect in the stitching. I'm currently on a backorder to get another one, but I just found this from Zara and (even this one!) I am admittedly having second-thoughts despite my own glowing reviews.

What would you do, friends? Keep the Madewell one or try out the Zara leather jacket.

  1. Hi:-)
To be honest I prefer the Zara jacket (the leather one) as it looks not as bulky, more streamline and the leather more supple and soft.
I like your blog and I am regular reader (first time commenter).
I own a BLK DNM leather jacket 1, the price is quite steep as well but I purchased it from Shopbop during their friends and family promotion. Highly recommend it, it has quilted lining, the leather is very soft and supple yet sturdy and the fit is spot on, not too boxy.

    1. Hey B! I've been meaning to check out BLK DNM. I've heard lots of great things, so maybe I'll have to hunt it down. I am leaning towards the Zara one too, not only because of the price, but because of the leaner silhouette you mentioned.

You should comment more often ;)

Thank you for reading my blog for such a long time, darlin'.

  2. yeah the first zara one (the other one is wrinkly, but the nude color is nice). this madewell one seems too billowy.

  3. Ooooh, the second Zara option with the black (gunmetal?) details is a stunner. That gets my vote. Of course, purchasing a leather jacket needs to be a tactile decision, so I hope you can see that beauty in person before deciding.

    1. I got the that Zara jacket (the second one) in white, and it's AMAZING. I didn't think the black one was as nice as the white, so I'm going to order the black non-wrinkly one to compare. I'll report back! Wouldn't be amazing if the Zara one was the ultimate jacket at only $249?

      Thanks, Louise!

    2. That would indeed be amazing. Also, I saw on Instagram you went for the gold (literally) and got the Mansur Gavriel! Congrats!

    3. It's the mini bucket! I didn't realize the mini bucket would be such an adorable and useful size. The large one was too clunky, but when I saw the mini I took a chance on it after selling a couple things from my closet.

      Such a perfect size.
