Tomboy

Ph. Biby Pacheco
Cheers to the realization that my favorite outfits all have an element of tomboy in them. Why did it take me so long to realize what feels most "me" is a mix of boyish cool and and a dose of downright girly? Better late then never, people.

Los Angeles

Silvano sunglasses (c/o Silvano)

Call this an L.A. diary of sorts, but all of my photos from when I visit home come out this way; there's always something a little bit cozy about them, I feel like I look different, and even the animals of the house make a cameo. I love being home so much because of the lack of pressure to perform, whether that means getting all dolled up or impressing people, it's all very "come as you are, PS we love you more than anything." That does a world of difference when I'm getting dressed, because as you can see I am in fact wearing shorts -- something so minor I would probably over-think to death in SF. I thinks it's the self confidence I get being around so much love and familiarity, that looking back at these photos I don't even care I'm wearing top-to-bottom Zara, or that my phone buzzed maybe twice while I was laughing historically with my mom. It's these times I wonder if this is me being adventurous with my clothes knowing I can't really fail, or if this is the real me beaming confidence and displaying so much of my legs. Is this even making any sense? Probably not. I guess what I'm saying is wear whatever you want, and if that means showing off your legs because for one day you feel like they are amazing, go for it. I'll still love you.

I'm living in the sweater and pants combination lately, a symptom of overwork and stress. So in an effort to look like there was a little more effort I am in the habit of piling on shiny accessories. They fix everything, right? Glitter Miu Miu sunglasses? Sure! Sparkly headband from J. Crew? Sparkly! But, wait, self, we may be getting too girly. I know, let's add something studded to counterbalance the chick sparkles. Duh, perfect.

A Little Bit Alexa

Zara shorts, Ksubi diamond laser cut t-shirt, J. Crew blazer, vintage watch, Madewell woven bracelet, Kate Spade bag

Back in the Bay Area after a week at home and I'm confounded by the temperature change. Los Angeles and the Bay Area's idea of summer are two very different things. For one, in LA, I would never dream of layering tights under my cut off shorts. But here we are, layering away our summer's finest. Alexa Chung, queen of leggy shorts (evidence here, here, here), I'm looking to you and instances like this for inspiration.

It's Never Too Early For Fall, Particularly 3.1 Phillip Lim's Sheer Pants Runway Kind Of Fall

Zara studio sheer silk pants, Kate Spade bow pumps, Zara parka, Theory knit, Theory dress

What choice do I have when the beautiful sunny weather goes away and suddenly the mornings, afternoons, and evenings are filled with the unmistakable (sad) chill of winter? None, that's what. So I mix it up a couple days and start test driving out a couple Fall 2012 looks I was obsessed with when they walked at New York Fashion Week. This one is all 3.1 Phillip Lim. This floored me:

The idea of a tiny mini skirt in a matte leather looking all the bit classy was mind-blowing. You dress it way down with a pair of sheer pants and over-dress the top with a loose knit. It's a great way to wear a classic pump in a completely new way.

Dandelions

Zara cut offs, top, and sandals. Karen Walker Number Six sunglasses, Kate Spade purse, All Saints scarf.

I used to visit this park almost every day when I was younger. Whether it was for baseball practice when I was really baby young, or tennis practice with my teammates later in high school, I always loved coming to it. It's situated quietly in the hills, making it a serene place to get away from the bustle of Los Angeles. It was especially hot and balmy on this day, so it was a no brainer in terms of outfit: something short, no sleeves, sandal-type shoes. Coincidentally, it happens to be all from Zara. It just turned out that way that hi-low black jumper, the short shorts, and the studded sandals were all a mix of recent and not so recent purchases. The sunglasses, of course, are Karen Walker. It can be pretty much assumed by now that the sunglasses are in the photos, they are likely Karen Walker. Who is the new photographer? No big deal, just my fabulous mom, taking a stab at directing her daughter behind the lens. Things got silly, and I loved every bit of it.
