The Ideal Maxi Dress Is Real High Maintenance

Oh, but it's beautiful. The dress in question is by Vince. It's silk satin, which means it sticks to your skin in static-heavy situations. And it's also not surprisingly dry clean only. It's worth the extra effort though, because in it I feel statuesque, put together, and real lady like. There are very few items in my closet that can achieve this with only one piece of clothing.

Miu Miu / Peonies

There had to have been some force of nature to make me pair the most glitterrific sunglasses in my arsenal to walk around Berkeley's Ohmega Salvage on 4/20. The people celebrating pretty much jumped ship for the city's more famous smoky celebrations, leaving me to consider vintage and salvaged things for my new house. / It's apparently peony season. This is something that I will probably never just "know." I'll forever be that girl wanting peonies in the months they simply cannot be found. (Mental note: come up with a back-up favorite flower ASAP).

I think technically this is Sonoma, not Napa as advertised (Cristina, the best host and event coordinator friend will have to verify). I guess there is a fuzzy recollection of us on our way to Napa proper for our first wine tasting appointment when there was a nasty accident on the main route, causing us to think on our feet (our brains were inundated in mimosas) and detour over to Jacuzzi wineries. We bought some bottles of wine, sat outside in the pretty warm sun and frolicked about the vines — with a camera, of course.

I'm living in the sweater and pants combination lately, a symptom of overwork and stress. So in an effort to look like there was a little more effort I am in the habit of piling on shiny accessories. They fix everything, right? Glitter Miu Miu sunglasses? Sure! Sparkly headband from J. Crew? Sparkly! But, wait, self, we may be getting too girly. I know, let's add something studded to counterbalance the chick sparkles. Duh, perfect.

Once More With Feeling

Somehow managed to forget the head-to-toe photo. So here it is. Once more with feeling. I can see myself using the Acne skirt + knit top quite often this season. The Barneys boots I got on ridiculous sale at the start of summer are fast becoming a favorite of mine, if only for their leg slimming effects. Legs + slimming = no brainer. Now that's an endorsement, ladies.

Pop Art

It was Labor Day Weekend when this playful outfit happened, which explains the down home backyard BBQ background settings. It was a pretty day, but it wasn't a fancy enough occasion to actually get dressed up. This is where easy knits the oversized, overtly Lichtenstein 3.1 Phillip Lim sweater comes in handy. When playing art pop games what better way to live in the world of color and contrast than with a tailored pencil skirt in a blue jaquard color and a pair of contrasty black ankle boots? The whole thing ends up being retro in a comfortable way, which was perfect for this personal occasion. The cheeky attitude is all courtesy of the Miu Miu sunglasses.

Pink, Plum, Plaid

What an interesting turn my wardrobe has taken on weekends, laying to rest the 100% girly fare for a more 50/50, masculine-feminine split. I took this shot on a trip to North Beach this weekend, on a particularly bipolar weather weekend packed with clouds, tourists, America's Cup, and a healthy dose of walking (good luck getting a cab). This top taken from the boys (literally, from the men's section at Ben Sherman), a rugged All Saints moto jacket, and the rest of the look is an edgy mix of girly pink and plum picks. Especially loving anything Revlon Colorstay these days. I'm not huge on manicures, since I am notorious for wrecking the polished finish within mere minutes. Sure $8 for drugstore nail polish seems steep, but when it holds up as well (if not better) than the department store $20 competitors, then it's a real steal. Sangria is the perfect Kiera Knightley-plum right now, (yes that is a "thing") particularly when it's paired with my favorite Chanel plum lipstick.

Casual Luxe

An otherwise casual and plain outfit if it weren't for the incredible luxury touches of the accessories. Hugh Hefner type Miu Miu loafers with some intricate embroidery play against the navy of the Acne jeans perfectly. The star of the whole look is the Dannijo Galgano necklace, without question. It's stunningly large, and a basicT by Alexander Wang single pocket tee is just the right backgdrop to play against the metals and blue pastel hues. Finally, the piece I've been most excited for this fall is the Alexander Wang Pelican satchel. It is the hybrid of sleek leather satchels like Prada Saffiano, with a touch of trapeze like Céline (or more attainably, Marc by Marc Jacobs), the postman's lock on Mulberry bags, with a cool nonchlanant Proenza Schouler-like cross body strap. Can you tell I'm obsessed?

This Whimsical and Happy Outfit Will Be Useful To Nobody, Unless You are In Turks and Caicos or Somewhere Equally Fanastic.

The reality is that I am not anywhere remotely close to Turks and Caicos, but if I was there I'd like to think I'd be in such a celebratory mood to wear a fine knit sweater like Meadham Kirchhoff's lamb short-sleeve one near the sand and water. I probably wont, you know, it's too hot. But let's stay there in that happy dream where we live like an editorial and wear expensive items where we shouldn't. Where we wear clean blue knits with whimsical frolicking lamb embellishments and pair them with plantation print bikinis by Jets by Jessika Allen. The print reminds me of Altuzarra. Which I love and am obsessed with. The Gucci sandals are suede, so be a grown up and take care of those because they are beautiful. The Miu Miu glasses just plain fun. We will ask ourselves why we didn't bring the glittered ones instead of the fun tortoise shell sunglasses, and just spend entire minutes pondering this life decision. Because you can. Because you're on the beach.
