Being Young and Green

via fashiongonerogue
Love this surreal video and editorial shot by Daniel Thomas Smith. It's feminine, modern, completely charming. It also features artwork by Rosanna Webster and is styled by Jeanie Annan-Lewin for Dossier Journal.

Small Things

Zara collar detail shirt and shell, Anthropologie sunglasses, Jennifer Fisher tiny gold triangle studs, CC Skye bracelet, vintage watch

It was a perfect weekend with my mom, mostly spent in San Francisco, walking the Golden Gate bridge in the morning, followed by a sunny lunch in Union Square, then a ferry trip home to the East Bay. My trusty uniform of tailored pieces (typically black, of course) paired with a button up was all the more special this time around with the recent additions of some gold embellishments: The western touches on the shirt, the thin gold rims on my sunglasses, and some brand new shine on my tiny Jennifer Fisher baby earrings. I love how minor touches of gold and a bold matte red lip brighten up and otherwise minimal, yet formal looking outfit. I guess the smile glued to my face doesn't hurt either in the brightening up department. After all, I was in the company of someone truly special, spending time enjoying all the small things.

Jackson Square

Zara top, Surface to Air circle skirt, United Bamboo Browline sunglasses

There was a point on Saturday that the summer heat in San Francisco got so hot it necessitated a break along the shadier side streets of Jackson Square. For the first time in a while it was almost humid in the city. That all changed, of course, as soon as the bay winds picked up. People got their layers out, and eventually even some parkas made an appearance for the rest of the evening.

The Minimalist Cool, Rag & Bone Resort

I'm going to find it very hard to resist this collection. It's entirely appropriate for the entire year, and it has the elements of style that are part of my permanent collection: Lean tailoring, layered buttoned up shirts, a clean somber palette, and minimalist approach.

Acne Déjà Vu

Acne pencil skirt, net-a-porter, scalloped Chloe shoes courtesy of ShoeMint, shoemint.com, Karen Walker Number One Milky Brown Sunglasses, Zara peter pan top, zara.com, Eddie Borgo spike stud earrings, net-a-porter, Anthropologie sweater, anthropologie.com

I couldn't help myself. I had to post another set of the photos we took in Dixon. I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed lounging around in an authentic retro poolside environment in my lady chic outfit. In reality, the Acne pencil skirt is doing all the work in these photos. The school girl jacquard fabric in a ladylike pencil shape, accentuated with edgy zippers, is the centerpiece of the look to me. It fits like a dream, and literally, required no hemming or tailoring at all. On a pencil skirt. So instead of calling this a repetitive topic, let's instead look at it as a celebration in buying a fitted piece off the rack and wearing it like it was made for you. Works for me.

In Which the Plaid is a Nod to the Crisp Seattle Weather and Not Just Me Trying to Stay Warm in Front of the Fridge

Two things: Thank you Clueless for the quote, always a great movie for cold wintery weekends, and I am apparently in dire need of a lint brush. I took a nod from Diane Kruger here and decided to wear my leggings proudly. I deserve it. You deserve it. Sometimes all you want on a rainy Saturday are some eggs benedict, some heidi braids, and a diner cup of coffee. Sure, the lighting is all off  and you look all sorts of pale with the lack of warmth in the air and the bold decision to wear merlot lip stain, but that's what the plaid is for. It's warm, bright, and just cheery enough to make people disregard that you're wearing leggings as pants (plus rain boots) on this particular gloomy day, and invites them to just sit down and enjoy their own damn cup of coffee without judginess. There'll be plenty of time for that come Monday.

J. Crew plaid shearling coat, Anthropologie necklace, J. Crew chambray shirt, Kate Spade handbag, Vince corduroy (yes, amazing) leggings.
