Dot and Dash

Wearing: Kathleen Whitaker earrings (courtesy of Kathleen Whitaker), Minusey dress

It turns out that adding some angular gold earrings to a provincially frilly dress is a great way to add an unexpected twist an otherwise predictable lakeside outfit. I like to think of the dots and dashes like a minimal morse code, displaying a secret message on my ears, only known to me. I'm not well versed in the language, per say, but I'm pretty sure I was trying to make them say, "Hey earrings, why are so cool?"That's what I think about them anyway whenever I put them on anyway, so why not try to make them speak it? Small Things

Zara collar detail shirt and shell, Anthropologie sunglasses, Jennifer Fisher tiny gold triangle studs, CC Skye bracelet, vintage watch

It was a perfect weekend with my mom, mostly spent in San Francisco, walking the Golden Gate bridge in the morning, followed by a sunny lunch in Union Square, then a ferry trip home to the East Bay. My trusty uniform of tailored pieces (typically black, of course) paired with a button up was all the more special this time around with the recent additions of some gold embellishments: The western touches on the shirt, the thin gold rims on my sunglasses, and some brand new shine on my tiny Jennifer Fisher baby earrings. I love how minor touches of gold and a bold matte red lip brighten up and otherwise minimal, yet formal looking outfit. I guess the smile glued to my face doesn't hurt either in the brightening up department. After all, I was in the company of someone truly special, spending time enjoying all the small things.

Strawberry Mint

Zara top, J Brand jeans, Cosabella Sweetie Bra

A fairly masculine outfit, if not for the little girly details that are scattered throughout. The minty sheer button up shirt has costume jewelry girly embellishments on the collars, and I added a little edge with some black lace details underneath. A boyish side part and low ponytail was just enough to keep it clean. I loved the idea of warming up such a minty cool color with a fruit punch lips, courtesy of Yves Saint Laurent red gloss stain and some pink mousse blush. The concept of a red lip gloss in a stain is pretty fascinating, and produces interesting results when you patiently layer on the sheer fruit punch color into a brilliant see-through red.

We Are Handsome

We Are Handsome's hyper realist swimsuits never got to me quite like this one did. "The Lover" swimsuit with it's hyperrealist roses print is pretty much the rationale next step we could have taken for summer given the Altuzarra print on print craze that was executed so perfectly for his Summer 2012 collection. Viktor & Rolf's Nightcall

I need to grow my hair out. It's official. I want the femme fatale waves from Viktor & Rolf's fall 2012 runway show. It depicted an untouchable woman who definitely knows she looks intimidating and works it to the bone. Kasia Struss and Karlie Kloss look like they should be strutting down the howling moonlit catwalk to this song by Kavinsky. Check out Into The Gloss for more details from backstage!

Love Letters To David Hockney, Rochas Fall 2012

The layers upon layers of texture and deep bordeaux colors create a moody atmosphere for touches of color to pop. The thick glasses remind me of David Hockney, and the retro Mary Janes with chunky heels, the tweedy wool fabrics, and funky orange background gave me an all around 70s vibe. Love that red lip so much.
