Luxurious

Loved looking at these images during the past week. The bold colors, subdued palette, and attitude is perfect with a background track of Gwen Stefani's "Luxurious". I tend to cultivate a folder that sticks to one theme each week, and it's just astonishing to see how in line they all seem to be after a couple days of scouring the internet. What a lovely way to transition my summer mind into fall.

Colonel Mustard
Strictly speaking this color is actually more of a fine dijon mustard than a plain-jane, ordinary, everyday mustard. 3.1 Phillip Lim's shift dresses are one of the few trusty things to count on to look like a million bucks, despite the simple shape. So this outfit is an ode to its simplicity and pop of color. The Fendi chameleon bag is a travel ready companion in an equally spicy color, and The Row sunglasses and Tabitha Simmons ankle boots are simple in design but full of subtle details that play off this dress perfectly.

Snapshots From North Carolina

Taking a break from regularly scheduled fashion programs to bring you a couple down-home snapshots from my trip to North Carolina. We're staying on the border of North and South Carolina, which means traveling to The Peach Tree to get some peach ice cream will cause you to cross the state lines so many times and bring up lessons in gerrymandering. It's strange to see everything so spread out here, but the abundance of green everywhere means every shot is so beautifully different to me. Definitely not the typical city fare. So excuse me while I indulge in sharing a couple of my favorite snapshots so far.
Stubbs & Wootton and the Resurgence of Needlepoint

Needlepoint seen on Dolce & Gabbana Runway, with baroque floral elements, are the perfect mix of granny and sexuality. Two things that you would never want to merge cause extreme cognitive dissonance and hurt your brain to think about until the initial panic subsides and you realize the two concepts work so well. I'm particularly smitten with the floral kitsch Stubbs & Wootton slippers. With a big fan of neutral monochrome palettes in somber colors, this is the right amount of pop and kitsch to brighten up any outfit. Weekend wear? I beg to differ. They are All-the-time wear, in my opinion.

Girl Power Suit

Did you see the Spice Girls perform last night at the London Olypmic Closing Ceremony?! I sure did. It was the minute or so of performances that I was looking forward to, and honestly, the only reason I tuned into the three hour international love fest. They took the stage and I was giddy. I suddenly was filled with the childhood exuberance for all things Spice Girls, girl power, and pink. Looking back at my teeny bopper girl group love for them reminded me of their catchy songs about love and positivity and I got irritatingly nostalgic for the days when the most important thing to do was go to the supermarket with to find out if their newest batch of Bazooka bubble gums have the latest Spice World temporary tattoos. Those were definitely simpler times. The way I see it, this J. Crew bubble gum pink suit is my homage to those girly days gone by, where me talking about why Posh was so cool and why Baby Spice was such the obvious favorite is all I did for an entire summer. While I still subscribe to the screaming "Girl power!" anthem, these days I let my clothes do all the talking on that front.
