The Grid: Sunshine

My tumblr is pretty much an explosion of color lately. I blame the beautiful views from Colorado and Turks and Caicos (where I am currently typing this with a slight sunburn, reposting things to tumblr).  Follow me, yea?

Colonel Mustard

Strictly speaking this color is actually more of a fine dijon mustard than a plain-jane, ordinary, everyday mustard. 3.1 Phillip Lim's shift dresses are one of the few trusty things to count on to look like a million bucks, despite the simple shape. So this outfit is an ode to its simplicity and pop of color. The Fendi chameleon bag is a travel ready companion in an equally spicy color, and The Row sunglasses and Tabitha Simmons ankle boots are simple in design but full of subtle details that play off this dress perfectly.

In Which I Take A Stab At Some Crazy Printed Clover Canyon Silk Pants

There was some hesitance, of course, at the sight of these crazy printed track pants by Clover Canyon. But there was an irresistible intrigue as well. They are printed, like, really printed, and they have an elastic waist band. Ugh, this could be retro in a bad way. But they are slouchy, so I'm thinking, "It's okay, I think these can look pretty good." So I take the plunge and buy them and am immediately surprised by their comfort and ability to not look like you're MC Hammer.

I like fashion's newly found love with the slouchy pant and the wide-leg pant, as this is more flattering to shapes with curves. The key here was the print. The solid stripes running down the pant help slim and tone down the crazy kaleidoscope pattern, while the slight taper at the ankle shorter length keep it looking almost like a trouser. All in all, don't be afraid to embrace the printed pant trend.

Be brave! Try them on! No, you'll look great! Just try them!

Drive, Girl. Drive.

Isn't it beautiful? True story: not long ago, Halloween 2011, a couple of adorable coworkers decided to dress up as me. It was the biggest surprise of my life to realize that I had a Wednesday Adams complex: I loved to dress in all black. Since that day I decided that, ok, girl, we have to give colors a chance. And so come beautiful things like this combination inspired by the movie I can't stop talking about: Drive.

I'm convinced that if Ryan Gosling was a woman this is what he'd be wearing in the movie. I know, epic. Borderline cheesy, but playful, tightly edited, and tailored.

The track pants are perhaps my favorite piece. They're these silky, slouchy pretty things by Elizabeth and James, whom I must say is on a god damn roll with their clothing line. The sheer paneled pink confection of a shirt is also by Elizabeth and James. I would wear it under a tribal inspired bomber by Tory Burch. While we're in this happy mood let's keep it up with goldenrod Christian Louboutin pumps. Golden + rod. Two great words that equate to magnificent things. In lieu of more things to scream for people's attention let's keep it simple with a great patterned Pierre Hardy cosmetic case. Remember you can get away with this type of thing because you're a bad ass driver.

Now there you have it, female Ryan Gosling from Drive. Go beat someone's face in with your Louboutin and go threaten people with hammers. Just don't get your bomber dirty.
