Outtakes from Dixon

Photos by Nick Smith

I just found these outtakes from Dixon taken earlier this year, and I just felt the need to post them. Seeing these is a reminder that a) that drama + wind is good, b) mint is still "in" (along with its other friendly pastel cousins), c) I have to make another trip up their soon and experience one of the most beautiful golden hours I've ever seen. What's the point in wearing such a dramatic hemline if you can't go somewhere incredibly windy and capture it on camera? I highly recommend it.

Strawberry Mint

Zara top, J Brand jeans, Cosabella Sweetie Bra

A fairly masculine outfit, if not for the little girly details that are scattered throughout. The minty sheer button up shirt has costume jewelry girly embellishments on the collars, and I added a little edge with some black lace details underneath. A boyish side part and low ponytail was just enough to keep it clean. I loved the idea of warming up such a minty cool color with a fruit punch lips, courtesy of Yves Saint Laurent red gloss stain and some pink mousse blush. The concept of a red lip gloss in a stain is pretty fascinating, and produces interesting results when you patiently layer on the sheer fruit punch color into a brilliant see-through red.

This Whimsical and Happy Outfit Will Be Useful To Nobody, Unless You are In Turks and Caicos or Somewhere Equally Fanastic.

The reality is that I am not anywhere remotely close to Turks and Caicos, but if I was there I'd like to think I'd be in such a celebratory mood to wear a fine knit sweater like Meadham Kirchhoff's lamb short-sleeve one near the sand and water. I probably wont, you know, it's too hot. But let's stay there in that happy dream where we live like an editorial and wear expensive items where we shouldn't. Where we wear clean blue knits with whimsical frolicking lamb embellishments and pair them with plantation print bikinis by Jets by Jessika Allen. The print reminds me of Altuzarra. Which I love and am obsessed with. The Gucci sandals are suede, so be a grown up and take care of those because they are beautiful. The Miu Miu glasses just plain fun. We will ask ourselves why we didn't bring the glittered ones instead of the fun tortoise shell sunglasses, and just spend entire minutes pondering this life decision. Because you can. Because you're on the beach.

Today's Black & White + Mint Mood

That Rainy Day Mint Chip

Who doesn't like Mint & Chip? Probably sad, lonely people. It's a curious thing that I always want to eat mint & chip ice cream when it's cold and rainy outside. Which is how I came up with the idea of creating an outfit in homage to the flavor. Plus I just ordered those completely adorable utilitarian Tatoosh Clyde rain booties and now I am contemplating outfits for it.

The A.L.C. Zoe blazer is just so beautiful to me. It has no collar, which could be weird, but it makes up for that by having tuxedo elements. Every time I got to Barneys in San Francisco I am completely in love with anything by Fornasetti. Especially this whimsical Fornasetti hot air balloon umbrella. The
T by Alexander Wang shirt dress  with sheer panels is also on my wish list because it will look so good with anything. Just throw some Wolford opaque tights under it and you're halfway out of the house.

This is where it gets completely into my wish list again. Behold the completely adorable  3.1 Phillip Lim Mini Pashli Satchel . The texture is oversized alligator and the size is über mini. Plus it's a cross body bag, which I am in love with due to the fact that when it's raining  you just don't have the arm capacity to place a pretty handbag in one. Smart.

Beautiful additions include simple rain-resistant beauty items like the super clean  By Terry Rose Balm
and Deborah Lippmann nail polish in Pretty Young Thing (P.Y.T.).
