Shoe Porn: Givenchy Odia Mule

Buckles. So hot right now.

We Get It: Pants Go Under Dresses For Fall

This runway trend is so consistent, so blatant, that I'm feeling a little paranoid, and certainly out of this exclusive loop. Someone powerful must have played some fashion telephone starting in New York, who then called London, who then told Milan — that bitch— who snitched to Paris that this was the trend to put into their shows.

The verdict? I love it. For two reasons:
1. Personal reasons: this may be just me, but I'm not one to jaunt around in short shorts and mini dresses no matter what my age or physical fitness. That's not that I don't want to, or certainly post about them once or twice or thrice, but it's just that I'm too chicken to do it. Too much skin — too much going on in my head when I do. Things like, "ah, my thighs" and other girl-type insecurities. I subscribe to the notion of "less is more" while I am well aware the fact that this saying is probably the motto for short-shorts wearing gals everywhere too. I am a huge fan of being all wrapped up and comfortable, and realistic, and still feminine, sexy even.

2. Nothing groundbreaking here in this reason: I'm almost always cold. I live in the Bay Area and this strikes my sensible bones as a smart fashion move. Trendy and practical. Layers, people. I live in them. Offices, they have AC and I work in them.

This Is Everything

I never knew I'd be able to look at photos of someone else's wedding and suddenly just know of what I want it to be like. These photos are everything. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the dress is custom Givenchy inspired by the Couture archives, and on top of that (!), it can never be wrong to be holding it at Danielle Steele's palacial house in San Francisco. But if you keep all the special touches, like the pergola draped in spanish moss and jasmine, and keep decorations to a minimum, instead relying on beautiful architecture, it doesn't seem all that intimidating to achieve. I am drawn to how it just looks like its the most casual, beautiful day where everyone you love comes together dressed up to witness and celebrate something special. It's like The Great Gatsby on a sober day. People wearing what looks great on them, regardless of the color. What's more, it's not overly feminine, it's totally made for man and woman. I'm thinking on a smaller scale — less people, way less people —this is everything I want for me. For us.

An Argument for the Return Of the Turtleneck As Layer

Before Steve Jobs got his hands on the mock neck (the only appropriate male turtleneck, in my opinion) and made it an icon of Silicon Valley, turtlenecks were epitome of chic, thanks to the likes of gamine Audrey Hepburn, sexy icon Marilyn Monroe, and classic Jackie O. Childhood memories were filled with my mom wearing turtlenecks, and even sometimes layering a slim one underneath dresses, cardigans or sweaters, evoking those classic silhouettes of classically stylish ladies. I swiftly followed her lead, because I at 7 years old could dress myself, thank you very much. Instead of going classic with black, I took a more experimental (and detrimental?) route with a cacophonous color palette of purple and kelly green to a kids birthday party. I was the life of the kid's party, for sure, but it was probably because they confused me for a young freelancer child clown for their entertainment. Nowadays I stick to classic black.

What a surprise, then, to find Rag & Bone successfully utilizing the turtleneck not in the chic execution of the aforementioned stylish ladies, but as a layer in the Fall 2012 collection. I was immediately inspired to try it again. I'm a big girl now, and there's now way I can be mistaken for a clown-in-training with a classic Calvin Klein fitted turtleneck tee layered under a super chic Rag & Bone Rani wrap dress. The wrap effect creates a sexy silhouette, keeping the look from being too prudish, and the addition of sleek patent leather Givenchy ankle boots and an Alexander Wang Pelican bag keep the look entirely modern and now.

Tailored Perfectly

Chalayan blazerGivenchy Medium Antigonia Duffel, Manolo Blahnik CC patent leather pumps, The Row leather moto pants

The dream team of an outfit above would not be as perfect if it weren't for the impeccably tailored Chalayan blazer holding the outfit together. The long and lean proportions with the crisp lines it creates the undeniable makings of a power suit. Among the pricey items, it's the most important in the mix, but the ubiquitous The Row moto pants and Manolo Blahnik CCs make a return in so many of my styling posts because they are truly that versatile. The Givenchy Antigonia Duffel makes an appearance for being the most tailored looking bag I've seen in a while. It makes perfect sense to pair it with Chalayan, they were made for each other.

Invest In Your Sanity: Pieces You Need For Trying Days When You Have "Nothing To Wear"

Simple, clean, effortless. Seems easy enough, right? That is an endless uphill pursuit some days, when all I need to get out of the house is an outfit that just works. Those trying days where nothing fits or  looks right  are solved by an outfit made of transitional easy pieces like these: Classic, leg-elongating The Row pants, topped off with a fitted superfine Theory t-shirt with a contrasting athletic stripe down the sides. Minimalist and modern The Row cat eye sunglasses literally got with everything, thanks the the transparent acetate and soft brown lens. I am a little blown away by the price, but when you find something that just works (damn it), I find it hard to resist calling it an "investment in my sanity."  The heels? They are sex on your feet, courtesy of the leopard print by Givenchy. Finally, the studded and tasseled bag by Mulberry is refined, lady-like, but with a hard edge. Put yourself out of your misery and invest in some of these ASAP.

I Love Karlie Kloss

Isn't she just gorgeous? The expressions on her face are a mix of childish playfulness and a sultry woman. The picture on the bottom left featuring Givenchy is just my absolute favorite. The pajamas on the right? Customized Equipment silk jammies. Love!

Railroad Crossing

A little school girl, a little hard edge. I just want to show off the ode to railroad fashion that is the Boy by Band of Outsiders suspender skirt. It's adorable because the criss-cross is on the front versus the traditional overal up-and-down suspenders. This extra attention up front means everything else is scaled back to gamine. Enter the Toga Pulla polo shirt. It has flutter details on the short sleeves, which is almost like a puff sleeve, but cooler. This option by Boy by Band of Outsiders works just as well. Simple outfits compliment simple accessories, like Givenchy sandals and a fine pair of The Row sunglasses.

Feeling Blue

There's something to be said for staying very edited and to one or two colors. And there's also something to be said for easy outfits to throw on when you've got absolutely no time. When my head's in crazytown I keep it simple. A classic Maje shift dress turns edgy with the addition of leather sleeves, the Eddie Borgo necklace is timeless, and the Michael Kors clutch brings it all together in an effortless way. I'm seriously considering those Givenchy cat eye glasses, perhaps an early birthday present from me to me?

The Gucci pumps are on sale, FYI.
