Keeping it Simple, Introducing the 12:04:Shop

"New in" is a pretty terrible way to start a blog post, in my opinion. I read blogs to be inspired by a point of view, and while that sure includes photos of new things I'm really more enthralled by the bloggers who show people how to put those hard earned new things to work in real life. Having an out-of-the-box post and then never seeing the new item again is really quite irritating, because I lose the feeling of "realness." Does this make sense to anyone else?

People who spend their time to visit my blog on a daily basis are very important to me, and I want to make sure I do right by your time by making sure I don't get caught up in the more frivolous nature of fashion: the over-spending, shop-'til-you-drop behavior that is pretty easy to fall into. I work a full time job that sometimes demands crazy ass hours, and in those crazy ass hours I feel a need to treat myself. This is where drawing the line between treat and downright overspending gets tricky. Although it's tempting, over-consuming just for the sake of having the latest does not interest me.  Yes, these Céline sandals are my new thing, which came with a hefty self-imposed guilt trip after just spending what I consider a small fortune on Balenciaga boots, but I purchased them with the intention of wearing them with everything. And when I stop wearing them with everything you'll see them up for sale on my shop because I'd rather have someone else enjoy them than having them sit in my closet, gathering dust for months after the initial love affair has passed.

So my point is the 12:04:SHOP is my "new thing" today, not so much the shoes. And while most items in my closet eventually go to Goodwill,  the more special things like Karen Walker sunglasses and Marc Jacobs shoes I once was obsessed about will go to the shop.

Coming Soon: Styling Them Célines

Currently editing some Céline outfit shots from last weekend. This future post is in part dedicated to lifestyle guru Grant K Gibson, whose Insta-shoutout has given me inspiration to set the bar higher when styling these insane nude sandals.

La Garçonne's Newest Lookbook Is Killing It

It's been a while since I looked at the styling of a lookbook and was completely sold on every item featured. A+, La Garçonne.

New Favorite: Timo Weiland

Have you ever wanted to look like Alexa Chung? Well, you're in luck. That leggy, rockabilly sensibility is perfectly captured in Timo Weilands resort collection. I'm absolutely smitten with the gamine simplicity of simple textured skirts, menswear elements, slouchy pants, and a seriously amazing hairstyle. Shop it now at MODA OPERANDI.

This is a special moment in time in which zebra print, stripes, heidi braides, and crazy Karen Walker tortoise works together. It must have something to do with the LA sunshine, because this doesn't quite work this well in San Francisco. I had an especially good time in Los Angeles this past week, enjoying the muggy heat, soaking in some family time, and celebrating the most talented and beautiful person I know: my mom! Happy birthday, mama. You are perfect y te quiero tanto!

Everlane Cotton Poplin / Perfect Rash Guard

When it's blistering hot outside sometimes all you need is a light cotton fabric that doesn't necessarily fit like a second-skin rash guard to protect your already sunburned skin from the heat.

Elevation 5,000 Ft.

VINTAGE LEVI'S  shorts  /  URBAN OUTFITTERS  jacket  /  ZARA  sandals  /  TARGET  tee  /  THIERRY LASRY  sunglasses  /  BEN SHERMAN  belt

What else do you wear when it's over 100 degrees outside, and you're thousands of feet closer to the sun, and your muscles ache from the previous day's hiking and swimming activities, and you're thirsting for some real city-coffee, not whatever Nescafé concoction they've got going on here in the Sierras? You wear this. The anti-outfit, in my opinion; no makeup, no shoes, a super sheer tee, and pants that are about 2 men's sizes bigger than your body. When the view is as beautiful as it is everywhere in the Sierras, you'll see why there's really no point to getting all dolled up around here. I highly recommend a trip like this.

Summer Hair Muse: Arizona Muse

There is just something really pretty about her nonchalant, tomboy messy bob that keeps me booking hair appointments. Love the thick eyebrows as well.

The Dewy Beauty Look's Best Friend: MAKE

There's a distinct diference between a dewy look and legit oil and shine on your face. One is a runway-ready youthful look and the other is a biproduct of the summer heat and, sadly, sweat. Getting the right balance of shine on your cheeks and dew on your face means having a mattifying mechanism within reach when you notice it slipping towards the messy slick territory. When my face starts to look a little too misty I blot with a tissue paper to gently matte the heaviest looking spots, then use a kabuki brush to layer on a touch of MAKE powder in "Salt Flats." It's a tiny layer of powder that makes a world of difference, I promise. While you're in a powder session, pencil in some white eyeliner in your waterline. That bright-eyed effect is one of my favorites on the go.

Check out MAKE makeup, if only to stare at the beautifully modern and minimal packaging.

The American Way

First of all,  let me state for the record that this t-shirt is from Target. It is $8 and perfect. I'm all for the finest one-seamed wares of The Row's perfect tee, or the boxy boyfriend fit of the Everlane box tee, and even the super worn-in favorite from Pickwick & Weller, but there is something so satisfying in finding a budget friendly Target tee that makes me just want to brag about it for a minute. Because when you "invest" in Balenciaga apron boots, Repossi rings and Thierry Lasry sunglasses, there has to be a balance in the universe. High and low, my friends. Play the game because otherwise it's hard not to feel like a real butthole consumer, satisfying my every whim with a swipe of a debit card.

Happy 4th of July

Taking a short break from city life and all things fashion for the Fourth this year. Although we can't burn any fireworks — the risk of fire is way to high right now — I am completely out of my comfort zone, living in work out pants, and hiking-type shoes. So enjoy the brief break in fashion oriented content. I'll back back after the holiday with your regularly scheduled programming. (Follow me on Instagram for more fish-out-of-water updates).

PS. Shout out to my best friend, Julia, who shares a birthday with the USA today. I love you, mija!
