Urban Resort

You know when it's hot as hell outside, and it's the weekend, and you want to go a little wild with your typical weekend casual outfit but don't necessarily think cutoff shorts are appropriate for you anymore? This is an outfit for that exact scenario. I don't hate on cut off shorts and the leggy women who can pull them off at this advanced age (relax it's a joke, #jk47) but I always feel so uncomfortable and self-conscious in them. Unless I'm on an island and it's 90+ outside, then forget it, I'm wearing cut off shorts. But I'm not on an island, I'm in the Bay Area, and the slightest bit of sun means that there's a massive chill factor waiting for you in the shadows somewhere, so you have to be strategic with your skin.

But Olga, why are you so wrinkled...and have you heard of a lint roller? What a great question, inner-monologue! I have heard of a lint roller but did you know that lint lives inside the sleeves of your sweater and that is a complete pain to remember to lint roll as well? Story of my life, guys. Also too, wrinkles happen when it's hot outside and you sit in a car running errands to Ikea then find a good location where one or two photos can be taken of what you're wearing. I'm showing you real life, people.

What to Wear to the French Quarter in November

When you're in New Orleans you start to wonder if the weather report is full of lies and exaggeration. How could it possibly be humid and hot, but also with an expectation of thunder showers in the same day? Well, let me tell you it's not lies. The weather is pretty unpredictable, and therein lies the packing challenge: what the hell do you pack when you're going to be walking miles a day exploring a city with buildings that date back to the 1700s with a possibility of humid hot rain showers? You're looking at it up top, my friends. I only took a carry on with me because if the trip is less than 5 days I just don't see the point in checking in a bag — plus, the airlines always lose bags, and the scenario where the airline loses my bag with my wedding guest attire in it was too stressful to think about. The furry Mongolian thing is just in case it was pouring, by the way. My thought was that I would wrap it around my Mansur Gavriel bucket bag since in my tourist haze it was deemed my most valuable thing on my person to be saved from the rain.  The rest of my outfit is a mix of super old stuff from my closet (my dad got me this coat when I was 16), and comfortable quality basics. If people want to knock Target and the fact that I love their long sleeve tissue tees, then come at me bros and girls. I like to be a sweaty and touristy in $10 tees, so as not to ruin a finer shirt with pit stains and BO. For the record, I liked New Orleans, but I didn't love it. There is something about drinking in the streets always kind of bothers me (which is why Vegas is not my favorite place either), but man oh man is it a pretty city. Bring your walking shoes people, we walked around 6-7 miles daily to get around on beautiful cobblestone streets and sometimes a little bit of dirt.

Sidenote: I'm wearing makeup in the above a la Glossier Phase I set. This is what wearing that make up looks like — like you're wearing absolutely no makeup. I surmise that this is the intended purpose of Glossier, which works well for me at least on days when I'm feeling ...what is the word...simple? (I think that's the best word for it, meant as a positive, not in the dismissive sense). Could I have layered on more cheek and eye stuff? Sure! But I was really sleepy this day and I didn't even want to bother with getting super dolled up. So there's that.

MANSUR GAVRIEL mini bucket bag

Déja vu

Is this a zoomed-out view of the other post about the Everlane Petra Portfolio? Yes. But I'm not feeling well right now so you'll have to bear with me because I like these photos and I'm questioning why I didn't include them in the initial post to begin with. I'm tired and sick because I just pulled a 74 hour week last week working on a pitch (we won!) and I'm now facing the consequences. This outfit is about the only creative thing I can muster lately, which is sad. But I'll be back on it the wagon soon.

CAMEO dress (c/o Adela Mei) (size S), ALL SAINTS jacket (size 4), CARVEN collar, VINCE corduroy leggings (size XS)

It's nice that it only took my mind months to figure out how to correctly articulate the runway trend of of wearing pants under dresses without completely feeling like one of those toddlers who choose to wear their entire mismatched closet at once. Although it's hard to tell from a photograph, the pants I'm wearing are a super-tight corduroy, which is a nice texture contrast to the dress's jacquard feeling material in real life —plus, it's much warmer than tights, you know in case you find yourself in San Francisco during our freaking summers. It took the right dress and the right cut to make it all click mentally. It turns out a voluminous drop waist like the one in this Cameo dress is a good way to balance out any sort of pant, as long as it is more slim fitted or simple than the volume up top.

On + Off

Working from home on the weekend looks like this. Not all the time, duh. Sometimes I work in my pajamas straight into the evening and wonder what I'm doing with my life as I stare at my unworn closet that day. Those days are learning lessons: get up, get dressed, make an effort and it makes a huge difference in my motivation. Even if it's just for me. (Note to self: while you're at it with all the effort and what not, just know that ironing clothes also makes a difference. Clearly I skipped that part, so apologies. Small steps.)

All Black Everything

The propensity to wear black continues. If you're reading this post on Friday proper, I am likely still traveling to the Dominican Republic (!!). My flight anxiety is being cured by a glass of wine, some inflight entertainment, and a good book. I'm currently wondering why I didn't work out more in preparation for such a swimsuit focused vacation, but it's too late for that now. Lame. Sigh. So typical! Follow me on Instagram for updates!

Getting Dressed in 5 Minutes

You'll need:   KAREN WALKER  sunglasses  /  ZARA  skirt  /  ZARA  shirt /  MAY28th  watch  /  CELINE  sandals  /   FASHIONOLOGY  necklace

Put it all together and you're pretty much in order for some ass-kicking in a business setting. Easy.
