The Leather Pants I$$ue

Wearing: Zara coat and leather pants

Photos by Nick Smith

As expected, Zara's leather pants have become the easiest thing to wear in my closet. I throw on a top — preferably something that covers the crotchal area, since these are leggings and not actually leather skinny pants with a front zipper and what not — grab any sort of jacket and literally walk out the door. It's more practical than you think, really. Taking inspiration from the #1 leather pants wearer, in my opinion, Rosie Huntington Whiteley, and you'll see what I'm talking about. They can look really good. The best part is that after waiting for about a year wondering how I will be able to justify such a hefty purchase of said leather pants, I'm proud to say I found a budget friendly alternative to my dream pair; J Brand leather pants with zip detail. After all, they are just pants, right? A coat, maybe, I can see costing north of $900, but pants? No. Not yet. So if you're game to try a starter pair, I recommend these. Shop the Zara pants here.

Rosy

Zara jacket, Zara jeans, Surface to Air tee, Kate Spade sunglasses

Slouchy, grungy, topped off with an almost too saccharine tweed jacket. These types of outfits were made for weekend walks along the windy San Francisco Bay. It's a trail along the famous skyline where you can walk slow, chat it up, and not worry about aesthetics too much. After all, you are easily outnumbered by eager packs of dogs, rushing to the icy water to play fetch, the results of which are best described as filthy.
If all else fails, my rule of thumb is to let comfort and experimentation take the lead outfit-wise, but just in case, throw on a tailored and proper-ish jacket to offset all boyishness built into boyfriend jeans. Of course, not everyone will approve of the stark boy/girl jeans/tweed combination, or my nonchalant French solve, so in the end remind yourself that it doesn't matter in instances like these. Especially when your company includes your number one fan (Hi mami! Happy birthday!) thus reassuring you that whatever you happen to throw on you'll still be the most fashionable in someone's eye.

Baggy Lady

Zara jacket & jeans, Vintage watch, Madewell bracelet

A little bit of lady tweed, a little bit of baggy boyfriend jeans — shredded, studded, slouchy, etc. It's fast becoming a go-to combination for me.
