There Is No Time Like The Present

A couple changes on this happy Friday morning! I've been busy behind the scenes on a little bit of a redesign, and what you see now is Part One of the overall overhaul. Full disclosure: it's made me more stressed than I ever thought it would. 12:04 has become a part of me, and thanks to people who visit and read, It's been a more important part of my life.

I often get asked, "What is the story behind the little dog and the bow tie?"

Well, that little dog was my actual dog, Max. He was a gentleman, I loved him, and passed away a couple years ago. As an icon, and in real life, Max has always been a white dog, but recently began exploring the possibilities of an inverted color scheme. So I ask you, my readers, whom I also love, if you have any opinions on which way is best I'd love to hear them in the comments. Does it matter?

In Which I Give A Cropped Sweater A Try

Scary. The word and very premise of an adult woman wearing anything cropped is frightening. It makes me recall images of super tall models on runways with super tiny waists and the inescapable feeling that crop tops are not for normal human beings. Like me. A mere 5'3".

Never the less, I gave myself a challenge and decided to figure out a way to style it because there is a part of me that likes the idea of baring a little bit of skin in an otherwise conservative outfit. Especially after seeing it work so well in street style photos.

The key, I found, is keeping the crop to a minimum. Unless you're Hanneli Mustaparta. Then, girl, go for it. A sliver of skin goes a long way here and I learned to appreciate the importance of layering the cropped sweater with something more forgiving and comfortable. Like this Burberry peacoat! Will I try it again? Maybe. The beach is ideal for this since baring skin is the name of the game there. If you're ever feeling brave I say go for it, normal woman.

NYFW: Michael Angel's Energetic Prints & Knits

What's not to love here? Oversized knits? Yes. A lovely model that's anything but boring? Check. A continuation of Michael Angel's celestial prints updated with texture and new shapes? YES. The restrained palette is refreshing to me as I'm really taking a liking to monochromatic uses of grey with punches of color. It looks sophisticated and youthful, and frankly less goth than black can be. Does this mean I'm over the black on black? NEVER!

Green Machine

There's something really exciting about minimalism that has built in pep. The idea that picking two colors and the same metal jewelry can make an outfit that is both super crisp and very optimistic. There's a theme recently! Perhaps a side effects of spring 2012's pastel trend is a healthy dose of positivity. Not bad.

I have a thing for cat eye sunglasses and opticals so I am literally obsessed with any fine crafted optical like Cutler and Gross' cat eye. It goes with my face, and it's sassy. Which I like. The candy-colored mint top is by Acne, and it drapes into an Elizabeth & James meshy, green pencil skirt. Classic shape, modern texture. Love that.

Finish it off with the super clean Acne Stella bag in black, my everlasting love for Eddie Borgo's single stud earrings and the punk-inspired cone bracelet. A classic sandal shape with a chunky heel by Ralph Lauren keeps this look clean. Who knows, maybe you can even paint your nails neon green and have them peek through. Go crazy, remember, you're a positive person now!
