The Odd Couple
ISABEL MARANT sweater (42IT, on sale here and in black), J. CREW jeans (27), ZARA mules (38, from the super sale), KAREN WALKER sunglasses
Listen, I'll be the first to admit the combination of satin formal-feeling mules and an oversized fleece sweater is a bit odd, but sometimes when the fog is in full force and you're too cold to walk around in the originally intended super cute summery top you had on, it'll have to do.
La Casita de Isabel Marant
So here I am, newly blondish thanks to the always reliable colorist powers of Spoke & Weal in San Francisco. Christine took a solid four hours to bring my reddish brassy hair up to a level of blonde that I never thought was possible. In short, she is a genius. (Note: Ignore my flyaways, it's incredibly humid today and although they are a collective of hair genius, they can't undo genetics). Like I mentioned before, Spoke & Weal knows their shit and I'd trust them with any issue, wish, or whim.
It's been a couple weeks with my new lighter hair color, but since my work has decided to keep me as a personal slave, I haven't been able to take a decent photograph of the hair until now. And what a beauty it is paired with the diaphanous (aka, impulse buy) Isabel Marant top. It's ruffled like a bunch of peonies crossed with a beautiful rosé jellyfish, plus the lackadaisical structure of Mexican casita tops. It is this very generational history of mine that is giving me an incredible amount of guilt for allowing my overworked brain to justify the price. Ouch.
Jeans that Make Me Feel Like Some Botticelli Chick
AG JEANS legging ankle jeans and top (c/o AG Jeans) / ETOILE ISABEL MARANT coat / VANS slip ons / KATE SPADE bag
There is something magical in finding jeans that fit perfectly. This is absolutely a woman thing, men (if you're even here reading this). Why is it so hard to find great jeans? You'd think that after my last post on the subject this search for a repeat win would have been obvious — "just buy the same type as last time, Olga!" — but no. I ventured into the land of boyfriend jeans for months and came back a complete novice when it came to the perfect skinny fit. That is until AG Jeans caught wind of my deep admiration on their fit and kindly gifted me what is now my absolute favorite everyday-pair of jeans.
A favorite pair of jeans must achieve two important things: a) stretch to fit my butt perfectly without weird draping in the seams and closures, b) make me feel slim and confident. This is exactly what the legging ankle does. If I have 10 minutes to get dressed, these are what I reach for because just fit. Also, I'm 5'3" and I love when an ankle jean keeps its promise about its length, too. I highly recommend these. Go get a euphoric high, pose in front of a beautiful bay waterfront and report back please. I promise you will not be disappointed.
Isabel Marant Resort Understands my Understated, Minimal Lifestyle
Love the contrast between the slouchy leather pants and the likes of delicate strappy shoes with a bow embellishment. What surprises me the most about this Isabel Marant collection is how exteremely wearable it is. Usually I feel like Ms. Marant makes clothes for French skinny women that are 5'10", especially judging by the proportions of most of her clothes.
Isabel Marant Cocoon Phase
In typical Isabel Marant fashion, this runs extremely large. So if you're 5'3" like me, you'll want to size way down. Don't worry, it'll still have an oversized, cocoon fit. (Mine's a size 34, for reference).
Two Things: Style Pros
Will just look at these two exemplary displays of styling? On the left: a ladylike blazer is contrasted by the intrinsic casual nature of a well-worn tee. The LV bad is an immediate luxe touch, and it works so well with a pair of toothpick distressed denim. My favorite touch, though, are the Modern Vice summer Jett in a cherry red. They are divine and I want them.
On the right: a more moody color palette is at play, almost masculine. The Isabel Marant parka is in the same hue as the relaxed way-unbuttoned shirt, revealing a delicately layered necklace. The pants are no-fuss and are hastily tucked into my favorite shoes of the moment, the Balenciaga cut out boots. The slicked back hair and total lack of purse makes this seem completely effortless and almost too cool.
Which to you prefer? I'm torn. I really am.

The Girl Goes On An Adventure
1 ROKSANDA ILICIC top 2 ETOILE ISABEL MARANT shorts 3 WARBY PARKER sunglasses 4 ZARA shoes 5 backpack via ETSY 6 PROENZA SCHOULER clutch
This is the kind of thing I would wear if I was going to travel a warmer city abroad, or if my name was Natalie and I just got engaged to my longtime beau in a romantic 18-month round-the-world, life-changing, adventure. (Read their blog here, trust me, you will want to track their travels.). I'd carry a backpack because that's just my style: I carry a lot of things because I'm a what-if-worst-case-scenario kind of girl. But I'd also carry a clutch, and ideally i'd like it to be in the same color scheme of said backpack and hopefully with a cross-body chain. Don't know what's going on here to make me so attracted to brown plus black, but it seems to work for me. The formal bi-color top is a night time shirt dressed way down for day, but I love how easy it is to wear. Plus if you're investing in such a top, I would pretty much have to find reasons to wear it for other ocassions. The shorts are clean cut and can only be described as conservative — darling even, especially in a world where short shorts typically have frayed edges or pocket lining sticking out of the bottom. I say no to those for this hypothtical trip because we're going for a more refined look. That requires a kind of short that will not make people immediately label you as a vagabond (the backpack is already working hard to label you that anyway), so you have to counter that. Plus, they let sit at nicer restaurants with shorts like these. The brogues are a nod to the masculinity that I love to infuse into outfits. The patent keeps things polished, literally, which helps because you're wearing shorts.
If You're Feeling Sinister
Love the severity an all white look can have, especially when it's accented with such a malicious looking ox blood red. I'm opening my mind to the options of white jeans, and that's all due to Isabel Marant. The off-white base and the piping on the side (not to mention the western pockets in the back), makes it a little more curvy friendly. Love Rochas and their shoes. They always look like a school girl's uniform shoes but a lot more luxurious. The Diego coat in an oxblood tweed is a sweet find this morning, but alas, it is sold out in my size. You will want to size down in this jacket, especially if you're 5'3" like me, but the effects of this oversized, very French sexy looking jacket is worth it.

Zara September Lookbook

I love how Zara is beginning to introduce the Isabel Marant western style shirts, the Altuzarra golden and intricate embellishments, and the Dolce and Gabanna sweet needlepoint baroque details. What I really want right now though, is a good oversized knit from them. That should hold me over until the most coveted items in the lookbook are available.
Tiger Beat

Hard and soft, young and bold. The combination of Theory leather skinny pants and all its bold implications are perfectly countered by the youthful charm of a Mulberry sweater. Covered up á la French with an Étoile Isabel Marant Diego wool coat, and topped off with some luxuriously leopard J. Crew half calf ballet flats. The YSL structured bag is completely revamped in a punchy green, which is surprisingly versatile, but (admittedly) not as fun as the blue one. Which is on wait list. Sad.
I'm personally going after that Diego wool coat because I felt so bummed after missing out on the perfectly wool draped, oversized French appeal of Isabel Marant's outerwear last Fall. Not this time! And let it be known that J. Crew ballet flats are the best. Period. I have a pair of patent leather Mary Janes that are about 5 years old and still an everyday staple.
