Isabel Marant Cocoon Phase

In typical Isabel Marant fashion, this runs extremely large. So if you're 5'3" like me, you'll want to size way down. Don't worry, it'll still have an oversized, cocoon fit. (Mine's a size 34, for reference).

Shop it here, here, and here.

Dressing Up Leather Overalls Means You'll Only Ever Break Even

As excited as I was to try out this dubious fashion trend, I was pretty worried about looking like a welder with no matter what I tried to accessorize the overalls with. Should I wear sneakers like Stop It Right Now? No way. I'm just not that cool to pull it off. Ok, so what about heels? Safe advice from my friend Julia meant choosing a pair that were really light, almost invisible, because the added height is a big plus with these overalls. You see, the crop on this pair of leather overalls is pretty skaterific, hitting in the biggest part of my calf, almost like culottes. For the top, it's probably best to keep it buttoned up or super simple. Even with all of these considerations, that gets you about halfway dressed. It turns out that no matter what you try to do to dress up a pair of leather overalls, you're only ever going to break even. These bad boys are so blue collar and dressed down by nature, you have no choice but to pick a side: casual or fancy. Either way you're going to end up at zero. What it really takes to pull these off is a healthy dose of confidence -- "#YOLO" if you will. So screw everything I just said. If this leatherific look strikes your fancy, I fully support you rocking this out in public. In fact, I'll join you.

Neat

Having had no internet for the past couple of days, I bring you the most belated post about a coat that likes to think it's a bathrobe. The coat is very much on trend with its rounded corners, but let me tell you, if you don't dress this up correctly you end up looking like some sort of spiritual healer, especially when you're taking photos on a picturesque trail in your neighborhood. (You can pretty much see what I'm talking about when you look at photos that are more close-up sans the beanie)

The collared shirt seemed necessary for this outfit, although I would have preferred it come with something to distance itself from it's overcoat-robe-ness. Regardless of it's controversial shape, I did find that it lent itself easily to a 90s style of dressing; just add a beanie and some plum lips and you've got the makings of an old school evening with the latest No Doubt CD playing in your Sony WalkMan.

My favorite part of it, and probably why I jumped into this impulse buy at Zara — as most purchases there are — was the graphic nature of the profile. The clean break between a navy color so black and a stark white appealed to my thirst to tackle a trendy item. If you decide to try to this style of coat, make sure you dress it up a tad as the rounded shoulder has an very slouched effect on the shoulders that demands perfect posture at all times. It can get sloppy real fast.

We Get It: Pants Go Under Dresses For Fall

This runway trend is so consistent, so blatant, that I'm feeling a little paranoid, and certainly out of this exclusive loop. Someone powerful must have played some fashion telephone starting in New York, who then called London, who then told Milan — that bitch— who snitched to Paris that this was the trend to put into their shows.

The verdict? I love it. For two reasons:
1. Personal reasons: this may be just me, but I'm not one to jaunt around in short shorts and mini dresses no matter what my age or physical fitness. That's not that I don't want to, or certainly post about them once or twice or thrice, but it's just that I'm too chicken to do it. Too much skin — too much going on in my head when I do. Things like, "ah, my thighs" and other girl-type insecurities. I subscribe to the notion of "less is more" while I am well aware the fact that this saying is probably the motto for short-shorts wearing gals everywhere too. I am a huge fan of being all wrapped up and comfortable, and realistic, and still feminine, sexy even.

2. Nothing groundbreaking here in this reason: I'm almost always cold. I live in the Bay Area and this strikes my sensible bones as a smart fashion move. Trendy and practical. Layers, people. I live in them. Offices, they have AC and I work in them.
