The Leather Pants I$$ue

Wearing: Zara coat and leather pants

Photos by Nick Smith

As expected, Zara's leather pants have become the easiest thing to wear in my closet. I throw on a top — preferably something that covers the crotchal area, since these are leggings and not actually leather skinny pants with a front zipper and what not — grab any sort of jacket and literally walk out the door. It's more practical than you think, really. Taking inspiration from the #1 leather pants wearer, in my opinion, Rosie Huntington Whiteley, and you'll see what I'm talking about. They can look really good. The best part is that after waiting for about a year wondering how I will be able to justify such a hefty purchase of said leather pants, I'm proud to say I found a budget friendly alternative to my dream pair; J Brand leather pants with zip detail. After all, they are just pants, right? A coat, maybe, I can see costing north of $900, but pants? No. Not yet. So if you're game to try a starter pair, I recommend these. Shop the Zara pants here.

All Saints

Photos by Nick Smith

My first leather jacket purchase that is sure to be the first of many at All Saints. Sure I've worn it plenty of times and featured it here quite often, but there's nothing like the dusk of Dixon, California to really bring out the detail in jet black leather. Quilted leather I might add. Like many people, I fell in love with that Balenciaga quilted leather jacket, but was completely overwhelmed by the hefty price tag. After a long search and disappointment to find that many brands use very thin leather for highly priced jackets, I discovered All Saints. It is a perfectly reasonable alternative to the designer items without feeling like a total teeny bopper. All Saints is one of my favorite shops now for their emphasis on quality leathers, craftsmanship, and most importantly, price point! I'm wearing the Rally Jacket, which is a hybrid of a biker jacket, with an asymmetrical zipper, plus quilted leather sleeves. Trust me, you won't be sorry! Check them out, but beware of the UK sizing:

Feelin' Hella Versatile

What's the point in buying an expensive Proenza Schouler PS11 leather clutch, a pair of Carven sunglasses,  A.L.C. Brice leather pants, and killer Manolo Blahnik CC pumps  if you can't rework them in other combinations?

We've seen how it could look graphic, very Gwen Stefani, here, so now behold the softer approach to wearing all that black leather. The peplum top by Three Floor is light as air and beautiful with the dreamy combination of baby blue and nude. The nude inserts, however, are less sweet and more badass, which is appropriate since you're pretty much rocking leather in every other aspect here.

Get the Look: Rosie Huntington Whiteley's Love For Leather At The Airport

There's only a few people that I see wearing this much leather and looking that good. That's pretty much what Rosie Huntington Whiteley does when she steps out to any nearby airport. So I thought, why not try to emulate this supermodel inspired outfit? An All Saints leather motorcycle jacket play well with J. Crew half calf leopard flats. Current Elliot leather pants are the ultimate Rosie staple, topped off with her ever-present RayBan aviators. Proenza Schouler's travel bag with the top handles and the cross body strap are pretty much the best thing you'll ever have while juggling a passport, a laptop, and a carry on (unless you're Rosie, then you have people for that. People like Jason Statham).

Get the Look: Anna Selezneva In An Amazing Shearling and Leather Paneled Sandro Coat

Anna Selezneva in the amazing shearing and leather paneled Sandro coat. Love this, it looks so dressed down and rugged, and the leather panels keep it from getting way too big. Get it here if you're ready to empty your bank account!

The Pelican Brief

If you're like me and have been searching for a bag that you can carry 5" heels for the day, a sensible pair of flats, perhaps a laptop, a camera, make up case, tech accessories, then you have been waiting for The Alexander Wang Pelican Weekender bag. It's a thing of beauty. But then there's the sensible, lady-like version of me that really just wants the Pelican satchel. The quilted leather, the beautiful frame, reminiscent of The Row doctor bag, it's too much to resist. Break the bank, get both? You'd be a fool not to pre-order these now on Moda Operandi  if you're into them, because seeing as how Alexander Wang has a track record for designing the "IT" bags for the next season, you will be so sorry to know these will likely be sold out everywhere come Fall 2012.

On a side note: you may have noticed the recent redesign of 12:04 blog posts. The end result is beautiful large images with attributions. I hope you like it! NYFW: Rag & Bone Lovin'

Rag & Bone is for everyone. It's one of my favorite things about the collections. Marcus Wainwright and David Neville manage to create collections that speak to more than one type of woman. They consistently deliver unique and wearable looks (entire looks, people) and so focused on workmanship that it's hard not to be a fan. One look at the styling of this collection and it's easy to see that a lot of thought is going into the layering of these intricately printed pieces. A simple skirt is not so simple because it is a sleek hybrid of chevron patterned leather strips with wool embroidered accents.

It's overall feeling of decadence. From the gloves, to the belts, to the coats (the coats!) with the fur accents, I suspect this completely rational winter wear is going to be quite popular this coming fall. Love!
